AIG Moshood Jimoh bags NUJ crime fighter award in Abuja
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has honoured the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, with the Crime Fighter of the Year award in recognition of his intelligence-led policing approach and contributions to crime reduction in Lagos and Ogun States.
The award was presented during the NUJ FCT Council’s Annual Press Week in Abuja, an event attended by the NUJ President, Alhassan Yahaya, and immediate past NUJ national president, Chris Isiguzo.
Jimoh, a former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State and past Police Public Relations Officer in the Federal Capital Territory, currently oversees policing operations in Lagos and Ogun States under Zone 2 Command.
The recognition comes months after he was named Security Officer of the Year at the Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA), further underscoring his profile as one of the senior officers associated with intelligence-driven and community-oriented policing strategies.
According to the organisers, the award reflects his operational impact in tackling violent crime, strengthening surveillance systems, and enhancing rapid-response interventions across key parts of the South-West.
Speaking on behalf of other award recipients, Jimoh described the media as a critical partner in security management and national development, noting that constructive criticism from journalists often strengthens institutional performance.
“The media remains the mirror that reflects our activities. Journalists are not enemies when they publish critical reports. Constructive criticism often serves as a wake-up call for institutions and public officers,” he said.
He also acknowledged his long-standing engagement with the NUJ FCT Council, noting that his experience working with journalists had helped shape his approach to public communication and policing.
Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to community-oriented policing under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, stressing the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the media.
He commended the NUJ FCT Council for what he described as its professionalism and patriotism, adding that sustained partnership between the police and the press remains essential to building public trust and improving internal security.
