Eric Opah wins APC gubernatorial ticket in Abia
Businessman Eric Opah has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Opah secured a landslide victory in the party’s governorship primary, defeating former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh.
The result was announced by the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Returning Officer, Mr. Bato Nylong, at the conclusion of the exercise.
According to Nylong, Opah polled 126,977 votes to defeat Ikoh, who garnered 5,905 votes.
The outcome confirms Opah as the APC flagbearer for the Abia governorship election, setting the stage for a keenly contested race in the state ahead of 2027.
With the victory, Opah expressed appreciation to party members and delegates for their confidence in his candidacy, while pledging to work towards strengthening the APC and expanding its support base across Abia State.
The primary election was conducted under the supervision of party officials, with members participating in the process to determine the APC candidate for the forthcoming governorship poll.
