BREAKING: I will support who ever emerges, Fubara pens emotional message, withdraws from APC primaries
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced his withdrawal from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Thursday, citing the need for unity, stability, and broader political consultation within the state.
In a personally signed statement titled “My decision to withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries”, Fubara said the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
He explained that he had resolved to step aside from the race while pledging support for whoever eventually emerges as the party’s candidate.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he said.
The Rivers State governor stressed that leadership sometimes demands personal sacrifice in the interest of peace and collective progress, adding that the stability of the state must remain a priority over individual ambition.
“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice. There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual,” he stated.
Fubara also expressed appreciation to his supporters, political allies, and the APC leadership for their encouragement throughout the process, while acknowledging that his withdrawal may come as a disappointment to loyalists who backed his aspiration.
He further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement, reaffirming his commitment to the APC as a political platform.
According to him, the decision was not influenced by pressure or weakness but driven by conviction and a desire to promote peace, unity, and political stability in Rivers State.
He added that he remains committed to serving the people of the state for the remainder of his tenure, while continuing to support the party’s broader political direction.
