Daily Times at 100: Publisher commits N100m to NUJ infrastructure project

The Founder of Folio Media Group and Publisher of Daily Times Nigeria, Mr. Fidelis Anosike, has pledged a donation of N100 million towards the completion of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council multipurpose hall project.

Anosike made the announcement on Monday at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Abuja as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of Daily Times Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the media executive described the newspaper’s 100th anniversary as a landmark achievement not only for the organisation but also for the Nigerian media industry, noting that the milestone reflects a century of resilience, public service and nation-building through credible journalism.

According to him, Daily Times has successfully navigated major political transitions, economic challenges and technological changes while remaining committed to the principles of truth, accountability and responsible reporting.

“Daily Times has been part of Nigeria’s story for 100 years. The institution helped shape public discourse, supported national development and gave voice to millions of Nigerians. Preserving that legacy is a responsibility we take seriously,” Anosike said.

He added that the current management took over the historic media organisation fully aware of the challenges involved in revitalising the brand but remained convinced that credibility and public trust remain the foundation of sustainable journalism.

Also speaking, Chairperson of the NUJ FCT Council, Mrs. Grace Ike, described Daily Times as one of the pioneering institutions of modern journalism in Nigeria, with significant contributions to the country’s political, economic and social development.

She said generations of journalists had drawn inspiration from the publication’s professional standards and commitment to public-interest reporting.

Ike stressed that journalism remains vital to democratic governance because it amplifies citizens’ voices and holds public office holders accountable.

She expressed appreciation to Anosike for the N100 million pledge, describing it as a major boost to the completion of the NUJ Congress Hall project.

The NUJ chairperson also urged journalists to remain committed to ethical standards and professionalism despite the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving digital media environment.

The multipurpose hall is expected to be commissioned as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of Daily Times Nigeria, one of the country’s oldest newspapers.

Widely regarded as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s media history, Daily Times is celebrating 100 years of existence, a milestone many stakeholders consider significant to the growth of journalism and democratic development in the country.
