Grace Ike honoured for excellence in service at Women of Glory Event

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service in recognition of her contributions to society and leadership within the journalism profession.

The award was presented at an event held in Abuja on Saturday, June 6, 2026, as part of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the Women of Glory Foundation.

Organisers of the ceremony described Grace Ike as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer,” noting her role in strengthening coordination and engagement among journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.

She was represented at the event by Sharon Emephia, Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, who received the award on her behalf.

The Women of Glory Foundation, which hosted the anniversary celebration, is a humanitarian organisation focused on supporting vulnerable women, including widows, single mothers, elderly women, and others facing economic and social challenges. The group runs empowerment programmes, skills acquisition initiatives, healthcare support, and mentorship schemes across Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, the founder of the foundation, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, said the organisation was born out of personal experiences of hardship and a commitment to supporting women facing similar struggles.

According to her, the foundation has grown over the past decade into a nationwide network with presence in all 36 states, carrying out humanitarian interventions and advocacy on issues affecting women, children, and communities.

Receiving the award on behalf of Grace Ike, Ms. Emephia commended the organisers for sustaining a decade-long impact in humanitarian service, describing the foundation’s work as a testament to resilience and purpose-driven leadership.

In her appreciation message, Grace Ike thanked the organisers for the recognition, dedicating the honour to members of the NUJ FCT Council.

She said the award reflects the collective efforts of journalists in promoting truth, development journalism, and societal progress.

The organisers expressed appreciation to partners and supporters of the foundation, urging continued collaboration to expand its humanitarian reach.
