Grammy-Winning Nigerian singer Talay Riley stabbed to death in London
Talay Riley, the United Kingdom-based Nigerian singer and songwriter, has died after he was fatally stabbed in East London.
The award-winning musician, whose real name was Mark Yinka Orabiyi, was 35 years old.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Friday on Pankhurst Avenue in Silvertown, East London.
Emergency responders were reportedly dispatched to the scene and made efforts to save his life, but he was pronounced dead despite attempts to resuscitate him.
Authorities have since launched a murder investigation, with homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command leading inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Confirming the tragic development, Riley’s family released a statement expressing profound grief over his passing.
“It is with overwhelming sadness that we confirm that Mark ‘Yinka’ Orabiyi, professionally known as Talay Riley, passed away yesterday morning,” the statement said.
The family described him as a gifted musician whose contributions to the music industry earned him international recognition.
“Talay will fondly be remembered by those who knew him publicly for his incredible talent as a Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling songwriter and artist.
“For those that knew and loved him personally, it is his humour, generous spirit and unmistakable presence that will be missed the most,” the statement added.
The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and condolences received since news of his death emerged.
Talay Riley built a successful career as a songwriter and recording artist, earning acclaim for his work within the British and international music industries.
Police investigations into the killing are ongoing, while tributes continue to pour in from fans, colleagues and members of the entertainment community.
