The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has nominated Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, for the prestigious Senator of the Year 2026 Award as part of activities lined up for the 2026 NUJ FCT Council Press Week.

The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

In a nomination letter jointly signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Obas Esiedesa, the union said the nomination was in recognition of Senator Jarigbe’s legislative contributions, leadership qualities, and commitment to constituency development and national progress.

According to the Council, the lawmaker has consistently demonstrated dedication to responsive representation, community development, youth empowerment, and advocacy for policies aimed at promoting social justice and inclusive economic growth.

The NUJ FCT Council noted that Senator Jarigbe’s activities in the National Assembly have contributed to strengthening democratic governance, transparency, and effective representation of the people of Cross River North Senatorial District.

The statement added that the Senator of the Year Award remains one of the flagship honours of the NUJ FCT Press Week, designed to recognise public office holders whose service, integrity, and performance have positively impacted democratic governance and national development.

The organisers further explained that recipients are selected based on informed media assessments and considerations of public interest.

This year’s Press Week is themed: “2027 Election: Defending Nigeria’s Democracy in the Age of Disinformation.”

The Council said Senator Jarigbe’s commitment to democratic values, responsible leadership, and constructive national engagement aligns strongly with the objectives of the award.

The NUJ FCT Council congratulated the senator on the nomination and expressed optimism about his participation at the event in Abuja.
