The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, under the chairmanship of Grace Ike, has been commended for its commitment to improving the welfare and healthcare of journalists within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

The commendation came from Livinus Chibuike Victor, Editor-in-Chief of Empirical Magazine, who praised the council’s leadership style, reforms and dedication to journalists’ wellbeing.

Victor described the administration of Comrade Grace Ike as purposeful, people-oriented and focused on restoring dignity to journalism practice in the FCT.

According to him, the council’s various initiatives have continued to inspire hope, unity and confidence among journalists while repositioning the NUJ FCT Council for greater relevance and visibility.

“I sincerely appreciate the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and her executive members for the remarkable work they continue to do for journalists within the FCT and beyond,” he stated.

He particularly applauded the leadership for prioritising the welfare and healthcare needs of journalists, describing the commitment as exceptional and uncommon in union administration.

“In my over 10 years in unionism, this level of intentional leadership and genuine concern for members’ wellbeing is rare,” Victor added.

The media executive further noted that the reforms and programmes introduced by the council have strengthened the union and improved the overall value and perception of journalism practice within the territory.

He prayed for continued wisdom, strength and greater accomplishments for the leadership of the council, expressing hope that the administration would leave a lasting legacy in service to journalists and humanity.

The commendation comes amid ongoing activities marking the 2026 NUJ FCT Press Week, which has featured medical outreach programmes, public discussions and advocacy on ethical journalism ahead of the 2027 general elections.
