Why I snubbed NDC, returned to Labour Party – Abaribe
Senator representing Abia South, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and returned to the Labour Party (LP), citing uncertainties within the party’s structure and ongoing legal disputes.
In a message sent to his associates on Monday and later confirmed by his media aide, Abaribe said his decision followed concerns over “multiple lawsuits and court judgements” affecting the stability of the ADC.
“Given the uncertainties concerning the ADC party with regard to the multiple lawsuits and court judgements, I have today resigned from the ADC and joined the Labour Party effectively immediately,” he said.

He, however, stressed that his decision was not a break from individuals within the party, noting that he maintained strong relationships with members despite the exit.
“This has nothing to do with the leadership and members whom I have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy close and solid relationships with,” the message added.
Abaribe’s media aide, Uche Awom, confirmed the development, stating simply: “Yes, it is true; Senator Abaribe has moved to the Labour Party.”
The senator was among the group of lawmakers who defected to the ADC on March 12 during plenary in the Senate. Before that move, he was elected under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2023.
Abaribe, a former Deputy Governor of Abia State, is currently serving his fourth term in the Senate and is reportedly seeking re-election for a fifth term.
