NUJ FCT partners Adobe express to train 100 journalists in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in collaboration with Lifestyle Hues and Adobe Express, has trained 100 journalists in Abuja on digital content creation, multimedia storytelling and emerging communication tools.
The one-day capacity-building programme, attended by journalists from public and private media organisations, was aimed at equipping media practitioners with modern digital skills needed to remain relevant in the evolving media landscape.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the FCT NUJ Chairman, Grace Ike, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to empowering journalists through continuous learning, innovation and exposure to global best practices.
She said the media industry was rapidly evolving, making it necessary for journalists to adapt to new ways of gathering, packaging and presenting information.
“The ability to design compelling visuals, edit multimedia content and present stories in engaging formats is now a core part of our profession. Tools like Adobe Express are no longer optional; they are critical instruments for effective communication in the digital age,” she said.
Ike noted that the training was part of ongoing efforts by the council to ensure its members remain competitive, relevant and impactful in a changing media environment.
She commended Lifestyle Hues and the Adobe Express team for partnering with the council and urged participants to maximise the opportunity by applying the knowledge gained in their various newsrooms and platforms.
Facilitator of the training and Brand Marketing Consultant, Ayodotun Akinfenwa, said the programme was designed to support journalists and other content creators with practical digital skills.
According to her, journalists need modern content creation tools to improve productivity, enhance storytelling and remain visible in an increasingly digital world.
“Tools like Adobe Express help journalists become more independent and efficient. They can create designs, presentations, announcements and multimedia content that improve how information is delivered to audiences,” she said.
Akinfenwa explained that the training was organised in partnership with Adobe as part of efforts to give back to the media community and help journalists leverage technology to improve their work.
She stressed that effective communication and information dissemination remain critical to societal development, noting that digital tools can help journalists produce content faster and in formats that are easier for audiences to consume.
The Adobe ambassador also urged media owners in both the public and private sectors to invest more in training and retraining journalists.
According to her, journalists play a crucial role in shaping culture, governance and economic development and must therefore be equipped with cutting-edge communication and artificial intelligence tools.
“Media organisations need to expose their reporters, presenters and content creators to modern publishing and communication tools. Investing in journalists ultimately strengthens the media organisations themselves,” she said.
Participants described the training as timely and beneficial, calling for more capacity-building programmes to help journalists adapt to the demands of the digital era.
