The Registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Babagana Mustapha, has underscored the critical role of accurate health data in strengthening the country’s healthcare system and improving service delivery.

He made the assertion during a two-day capacity-building workshop held in Abuja for tutors of Health Information Management (HIM) training institutions across Nigeria.

The workshop, themed “Capacity Building Training on District Health Information System II (DHIS2) for HIM Tutors,” focused on equipping educators with advanced skills in digital health data management.

Mustapha described the training as both timely and strategic, stressing that in an increasingly data-driven healthcare environment, the ability to generate, manage, analyse, and utilise reliable data is essential for effective decision-making and improved health outcomes.

He noted that the District Health Information System II (DHIS2) has become a vital component of Nigeria’s health information architecture, supporting data management across primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare levels.

The registrar further highlighted the pivotal role of tutors in shaping the next generation of health information professionals, urging continuous capacity development to keep pace with evolving digital systems.

According to him, the initiative reflects the Board’s commitment to enhancing professional standards, aligning training with national health priorities, and advancing digital transformation within the sector.

He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions, collaborate with facilitators, and apply the knowledge acquired to improve teaching methodologies and student competence.

Mustapha also commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, alongside development partners and facilitators, for their support in organising the programme.

He expressed confidence that the training would significantly improve data quality, strengthen the health system, and enhance healthcare delivery across the country.
