NSITF launches ECS help desk to strengthen welfare of Nigerian civil servants
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has commissioned an Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS) Help Desk at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, in a move aimed at enhancing the welfare, safety, and social protection of federal civil servants.
Speaking at the event held on April 21, 2026, NSITF Managing Director and Chief Executive, Oluwaseun Faleye, described the initiative as a landmark step in strengthening Nigeria’s social security framework.
He said the Help Desk represents a transition from policy formulation to practical impact in safeguarding workers.
According to him, the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise the welfare and security of public servants across the country.
Faleye noted that the Help Desk would serve as a one-stop centre providing critical services, including information dissemination, professional guidance, claims processing support, and resolution of issues relating to the Employees’ Compensation Scheme.

“This is not just a physical office, but a fully functional service hub designed to ensure accessibility, transparency, and efficiency in service delivery,” he said.
He further explained that the system introduces a structured payroll integration framework that ensures all eligible civil servants are captured, contributions properly accounted for, and claims processed through a reliable mechanism.
The NSITF boss also commended the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for her leadership and support in bringing the initiative to fruition.
In her remarks, Walson-Jack described the development as historic, noting that it marks a significant milestone in advancing workers’ welfare within the federal civil service. She also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising reforms that directly impact civil servants.
The Help Desk is expected to function as an information hub, advisory centre, claims processing interface, and feedback channel, while also supporting compliance and coordination across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
As part of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the NSITF and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to deepen collaboration and ensure the effective implementation of the scheme.
Observers say the initiative could significantly improve confidence in Nigeria’s compensation system by ensuring that civil servants receive timely support and protection in cases of workplace-related incidents.
