President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on his 85th birthday, describing the revered monarch as a symbol of unity, integrity and exemplary leadership whose contributions have strengthened national cohesion and community development.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the traditional ruler’s distinguished record in corporate leadership and traditional stewardship, noting that his life reflects service, excellence and dedication to nation-building.
Tinubu described the Obi of Onitsha as “a symbol of unity, grace and integrity,” while acknowledging his achievements as a respected traditional ruler, corporate executive, oil and gas expert, and influential boardroom leader.
The President recalled that before ascending the throne of his forefathers, Igwe Achebe built an outstanding career in the energy sector, serving as a director at Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria and holding leadership positions in several Shell companies across the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia and Angola.
Tinubu commended the monarch for leveraging his vast experience, influence and leadership to promote peace, youth empowerment and socio-economic development within Onitsha and beyond.
He particularly praised Igwe Achebe’s role in fostering national unity, describing him as a vital bridge between grassroots communities and government through decades of constructive engagement and statesmanship.
The President also acknowledged the monarch’s enduring contributions to corporate governance, enterprise development and public service, noting that his impact extends far beyond Anambra State and the South-East region.
Joining the royal family, the people of Onitsha and the entire Anambra State in celebrating the milestone, Tinubu prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for the monarch.
He expressed hope that the traditional ruler would continue to provide exemplary leadership and guidance to his people and the nation.
