The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Media Leadership and Civic Engagement Award at the Emporium Lecture and Awards held to commemorate the media organisation’s 10th anniversary.

Receiving the recognition on Thursday, Ike described Emporium’s decade of consistent and credible journalism as a remarkable achievement, saying it reflects resilience, vision and an unwavering commitment to the core values of the journalism profession.

She congratulated the publisher, editorial team and the entire Emporium family, noting that the milestone was well deserved.

Speaking on the theme of the event, “From Clicks to Credibility: Digital Media’s Role in Deepening Nigeria’s Democracy,” Ike stressed that credibility must remain the foundation of journalism, particularly at a time when information spreads faster than it can be verified.

“In an era where the speed of information often outpaces its accuracy, credibility is non-negotiable. It is the foundation upon which democracy is built and sustained,” she said.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the NUJ FCT Council to supporting media organisations that prioritise truth, professionalism and accountability over the pursuit of online traffic and public applause.

Ike urged journalists to remain committed to nation-building by telling impactful stories, holding those in authority accountable and promoting individuals whose leadership contributes positively to society.

She noted that recognising credible leadership encourages higher standards across society and strengthens the pursuit of good governance, peace and sustainable development.

Describing the award as both an honour and a responsibility, she urged fellow recipients to view the recognition as a call to greater service.

“May this honour strengthen your resolve to lead with humility, fairness, and courage,” she said.

She concluded by congratulating all award recipients and wishing Emporium continued success as it enters its second decade of journalism.
