Gombe Gov seeks Assembly approval for 23 commissioner-nominees

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has forwarded the names of 23 commissioner-nominees to the Gombe State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.

The nominations were conveyed in a letter dated June 29, 2026, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo.

Governor Yahaya stated that the request was made in accordance with Section 192(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which requires the House of Assembly to screen and confirm commissioner nominees before their appointments can take effect.

In the letter, the governor sought the Assembly’s approval to appoint the nominees as commissioners, stating that they would provide policy direction, strengthen governance and support the effective implementation of his administration’s programmes and policies.

A statement issued on Monday by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, listed the nominees as:

Governor Yahaya said the nominees were carefully selected based on their competence, experience and capacity to contribute meaningfully to policy formulation, governance and the effective administration of the state.

He expressed confidence that the House of Assembly would give the request expeditious consideration, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and accelerating the delivery of its development agenda.

The Gombe State House of Assembly is expected to commence the screening of the nominees in the coming days. If confirmed, they will be sworn in as commissioners and assigned portfolios to oversee key ministries in the state government
