‘I’m The Boss’: Trump steals spotlight at G7 Summit in France
United States President Donald Trump once again dominated attention at the G7 summit in France after jokingly declaring, “I’m the boss,” as he arrived for the final day of talks on Wednesday.
The summit, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron in the lakeside town of Evian-les-Bains, brought together leaders of the world’s leading industrialised nations to discuss global security and economic issues.
As Trump entered the meeting room while other leaders were already seated, he remarked, “I’m the boss,” drawing laughter from participants.
Macron appeared to take the comment in good humour and greeted the American president before proceedings continued.
Trump’s presence reportedly remained one of the defining features of the three-day summit, coming shortly after he announced a breakthrough agreement aimed at ending hostilities involving Iran and as he celebrated his 80th birthday.
Unlike the previous G7 summit in Canada, where Trump departed before the conclusion of discussions, the US president stayed throughout the event and signed the final G7 communiqué, a development seen as a diplomatic success for the French hosts.
In a rare gesture, Macron also invited Trump to a private dinner at the historic Palace of Versailles following the summit.
However, French officials were quick to stress that the gathering would not be a lavish state-style gala, amid domestic criticism that Macron was being overly accommodating toward the American leader.
Trump, a former businessman and television personality known for hosting The Apprentice, has frequently projected a strong and dominant leadership style on the international stage, often drawing both praise and criticism from allies and opponents alike.
