‘The Last One Wanted to Meet My Dad’ — DJ Cuppy says she can’t marry a Nigerian
Nigerian disc jockey and entertainer, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has spoken candidly about her experiences with relationships, saying her family background and celebrity status often complicate her dating life.
The daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola made the remarks in a resurfaced interview clip from a recent podcast appearance that has generated widespread reactions on social media.
According to Cuppy, one of her previous relationships left her questioning whether some people were genuinely interested in her or more focused on her family connections.
Recalling the experience, she said a former partner seemed more concerned about meeting her father than building a meaningful relationship with her.
“I can never marry a Nigerian. It’s impossible. The last one I dated was asking me when he can meet my dad,” she said.
She added that the experience made her wonder whether people are attracted to her personality or simply interested in her public image and family wealth.
“I didn’t even think they liked me. My dad doesn’t even care who I marry. He just wants me to get married,” she stated.
Cuppy also expressed happiness for her younger sister, Temi Otedola, and Temi’s partner, Mr Eazi, noting that their relationship appears genuine and supportive.
The comments have reignited conversations online about celebrity relationships, wealth, fame and the challenges of finding genuine connections.
Cuppy’s romantic life has frequently attracted public attention, particularly following her highly publicised engagement to British boxer Ryan Taylor in 2022 and their subsequent breakup in 2023.
Although the interview clip has continued to trend across social media platforms, Cuppy has not issued any fresh statement addressing the reactions generated by her remarks.
