Katsina Govt dismisses claims of sponsoring Hajj for bandit leaders

The Katsina State Government has strongly denied allegations that it sponsored Hajj pilgrimage for bandit leaders or individuals involved in criminal activities, describing the claim as false, malicious and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs on Wednesday, the government specifically rejected comments made by Bashir Kurfi during a programme aired on Trust TV, where he allegedly claimed that the state government sponsored bandits for the pilgrimage.

The government said the allegation was entirely baseless and lacked any factual foundation, insisting that it was designed to mislead the public and undermine ongoing security efforts across the state.

According to the statement, the allegation surfaced at a time when security agencies, with support from the state government, have recorded notable successes in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.

The government described the claim as a deliberate attempt to distract public attention from these achievements and create unnecessary mistrust among citizens.

It further accused some individuals and groups of politicising security matters for personal and political interests, alleging that such elements were unhappy with the government’s refusal to participate in schemes aimed at diverting public resources away from development projects and programmes.

The government challenged those behind the allegations to provide credible and verifiable evidence to support their claims.

It warned that failure to do so could compel the state government to pursue all lawful measures available to protect its reputation and hold accountable those responsible for spreading false and defamatory information.

The statement urged residents of Katsina State and Nigerians generally to disregard the allegations and continue supporting security agencies and stakeholders working to restore peace and stability across the state.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting ongoing security operations and implementing measures aimed at guaranteeing the safety, welfare and prosperity of residents.
