The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, and former House of Representatives member, Gbenga Elegbeleye, from the party’s final list of National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The party also replaced five other senatorial aspirants and 19 House of Representatives candidates following the outcome of its primary election appeal process.

The affected constituencies span Kogi, Abia, Benue, Taraba, Ondo, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi states.

According to a document obtained by The Nation, the revised list has been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The updated list was transmitted through a joint letter signed by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.

Titled “Forwarding of Approved List of Senatorial and House of Representatives Candidates,” the letter stated that the changes followed the recommendations of the party’s Primary Election Appeal Committee.

“We write to formally forward the attached list of the party’s candidates for the affected senatorial and House of Representatives constituencies arising from the report of the Primary Election Appeal Committee.

“Following the determination of appeals from the recently concluded primary elections, the reports of the Appeal Committee were reviewed and subsequently considered and approved by the NWC of the APC as the party’s final position on the affected constituencies,” the letter stated.

The APC said the substitutions were carried out in line with the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) and the guidelines issued by INEC.

The revised senatorial list showed that Suswam lost the Benue North East ticket to Emmanuel Memga Udende, while Benjamin T. Aber was replaced by Titus Tartenger Zam in Benue North West.

In Ondo State, Gbenga Elegbeleye was replaced by Olajide Ipinsagbe as the party’s candidate for Ondo North Senatorial District, while Adeniyi Adegbonmire emerged in place of Taiwo Fasorati for Ondo Central.

Other changes include Senator Sunday Karimi replacing Aro Samuel Bamidele in Kogi West, Prince Paul Ikonne replacing Edinburgh Uchenna Erondu in Abia South, and Shuibu Isa Lau replacing Mohammed Kabir Bello in Taraba North.

The review also led to changes in 19 House of Representatives tickets across the affected states.

In Benue State, five candidates were replaced, including Ikper Chris Terfa for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, who was substituted with Dickson Tarkighir, and Livinus Tsar Adzor for Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency, who was replaced by Sesoo Ikpagher.

Ondo State recorded six substitutions, including Donald Ojogo replacing Akingboye Leke in Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency and Festus Olarewaju replacing Rasaq Obe in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency.

The APC also effected changes in Taraba, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna and Ebonyi states as it finalised its list of National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
